Safety Tips

Here at Sixth Scent Candles we want to ensure that all our customers enjoy using our candles and melts, get the best possible scent vs. duration results, and maintain maximum safety at all times. As such, we have put together a few simple, yet effective tips for using our products within your home.

Soy Wax Candles

Safe candle burning

Always burn your candle on a level heat resistant surface and away from flammable objects and other sources of heat and draughts.

Keep candles away from children and pets and never leave a candle unattended whilst lit. Always leave a minimum of 10cm between any burning candles.

Never handle a candle whilst in use. Wait until the wax has cooled and hardened before moving.

Don’t drop matches or other debris into the wax.

Candle performance

For maximum results burn your candle for 3-4 hours at a time, or until the wax pool reaches all the wall vessels. After this period allow the wax to cool and solidify before re-lighting. This helps to maintain the life of your candle giving you a full and consistent fragrance throw throughout burning.

Please note that your candle might experience some frosting, this is actually a unique and natural effect of using vegetable waxes, especially soy. The wax is trying to return back to its natural form and as a result it begins to crystallise. It doesn’t affect the performance of the candle in any way and also means that the wax is 100% natural.

Wick trimming

Keep your wick trimmed to 3-5mm at all times. This also applies to the first time you light your candle. Trim your wick before each burn. Ensure that any wick trimmings are removed before lighting the candle, by using a specialised wick trimmer. You can also do this by pinching it with your finger tips, however please ensure the candle and wick are cold/at room temperature.

Lighting the candle

Use a long barrelled gas lighter where possible as these do not leave unwanted residue (as opposed to matches), and make it easier to ignite the wick when the wax is lower down the candle jar.

Optimal wax pool

Each time you burn your candle allow the entire top layer to become a pool of liquid wax. This creates the best fragrance throw possible, keeps your wicks burning with a consistent flame and helps minimise tunnelling (unmelted wax left on the sides of the candle jar). Remember, it is the melted pool of wax that delivers your candle's fragrance throw.

Knowing when to say goodbye

It's not great when you have to say bye to your favourite scented candle. However, once your candle wax is approximately 1cm away from the bottom of the container, you should no longer use it. Feel free to repurpose your container once you have safely and responsibly disposed of the remaining wax and wick. And remember, good bye is not forever... Why not browse our collection and order your next favourite candle.

Soy Wax Melts

Safe usage

To prevent fire or injury remove packaging before use.

Use only tea-light or specifically designed electric warmers approved for wax melts. Read and follow all instructions provided with your warmer before use. Do not leave melter unattended while in use. Keep warmer and melts out of reach of children and pets.

DO NOT add water or oil. Do not melt on stove top or in non-approved appliances.

Use only in well ventilated areas away from flammable materials.

DO NOT wash or dispose spent wax down the drain. May cause an allergic skin reaction. Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.

Harmful if ingested - DO NOT EAT.

Performance

Scent throw will vary depending on the type and performance of your wax warmer. Tea light warmers will give you a more intense throw for a shorter period of time. Electric warmers will release scent for a longer period of time, though scent intensity will be somewhat reduced.

Our test indicated that one of our melts will give you up to 12 hours of scent through, if used on a tea light warmer. The same melt will release its less-intense fragrance for a longer period of time of up to 16 hours, if used on an electric warmer. These results are approximate and may vary significantly based on your specific warmer and setup.

Due to nature of soy wax frosting might occur in the process of making these melts. However this does not alter the scent performance.

Knowing when to say goodbye

It's not great when you have to say bye to your favourite scented wax melt. However, when fragrance is spent, allow wax to cool and harden, remove from warmer bowl and dispose of the wax safely and responsibly
